A pocket-sized escape.

An interactive tribute to Sony’s 1979 TPS-L2, paired with Koss Porta Pro headphones (introduced in 1984). A deliberately cross-era listening setup.

Press the buttons on the model. Drag the object to reach its other sides. Drag either volume fader along its rail, even when the device is rotated. Click REW or FF to latch continuous winding; PLAY or STOP ends it. Hold either for more than a moment, then release, to return to the previous playback state. Winding crosses tracks without track-skip buttons. HOT LINE lowers the music while held. The original also used a microphone; this recreation does not capture audio.

YouTube may require a second press of PLAY, and some videos cannot be embedded. Local files stay on your device. The example and local audio have worn-cassette saturation, softened highs, hiss, slow irregular speed drift and wow/flutter. The device’s TONE switch selects high or low treble. YouTube audio cannot be filtered by the browser and stays unprocessed. The volume sliders adjust left and right independently for local stereo audio; YouTube provides a shared volume, so it uses their average. Random starts select a track uniformly, then a position within that track.

Independent tribute. Not affiliated with Sony or Koss.
